Stress Reduction Sessions

When your nervous system needs more than a day off.

Stress is one of the most common health complaints in the UK — and one of the most underestimated. Short-term stress is manageable. But when it becomes chronic — when you're constantly tense, exhausted, sleeping badly, or running on adrenaline just to get through the day — it starts to affect everything: your body, your mood, your concentration, your immune system, and your relationships.

You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support. If stress is getting in the way of you living and feeling well, I can help.

What Are Stress Reduction Sessions?

I offer dedicated one-to-one sessions specifically designed to calm an overloaded nervous system and restore a sense of balance and ease. Drawing on a range of complementary approaches, these sessions are gentle, deeply relaxing and often profoundly effective — even after just one appointment.

Sessions can combine any or all of the following, depending on what suits you:

Bowen Therapy Gentle, precise movements over specific points of the body that stimulate the nervous system and promote deep relaxation. Bowen works directly with the autonomic nervous system — the system that controls your stress response — helping to shift the body from a state of alert and tension into genuine rest and recovery.

Ear Acupuncture for Stress and Anxiety A gentle and widely used technique in which small, fine needles or pressure points on the ear are used to support relaxation, reduce anxiety and improve sleep. I am certified in ear acupuncture specifically for stress and anxiety (FHT, 2017) and have used this alongside other treatments with excellent results.

Breathwork and Guided Relaxation Simple but powerful breathing techniques that directly regulate the nervous system. I'll guide you through approaches you can use in the session and independently — making each appointment something you can build on in daily life.

Soft Tissue Massage for Tension Release Where physical tension is a key part of the picture — tight shoulders, jaw clenching, chronic back tension — targeted massage can be incorporated to release the body's stored stress response.

Health and Wellbeing Coaching Where lifestyle factors are contributing to stress — sleep, routine, workload, movement, nutrition — I can weave in practical coaching to help you understand and address the underlying patterns, not just the symptoms.

What Can Stress Reduction Sessions Help With?

People come to me for stress reduction support when they're dealing with:

  • Chronic stress and anxiety

  • Burnout — physical and emotional exhaustion

  • Poor sleep and difficulty switching off

  • Constant muscle tension, particularly in the neck, jaw and shoulders

  • Racing thoughts and difficulty relaxing

  • Feeling overwhelmed, on edge or emotionally flat

  • Stress-related headaches and fatigue

  • Recovery from a difficult period at work or in life

  • Low mood and lack of energy

Who Is This For?

Stress reduction sessions are for anyone who feels that their nervous system is working against them rather than with them. You don't need a diagnosis, and you don't need to be at rock bottom.

They're particularly popular with:

  • Professionals dealing with high-pressure work environments

  • People going through a difficult life transition

  • Those managing chronic pain, where stress and physical symptoms are intertwined

  • Anyone who has tried to relax and found they simply can't

  • People who want a more holistic approach than medication alone

  • Organisations looking to provide one-to-one stress support for employees

What to Expect

Sessions are unhurried and guided entirely by what you need. We'll begin with a brief conversation about where you are and what you'd most like to experience in the session. From there, I'll draw on the most appropriate combination of approaches — you don't need to decide in advance, we'll work it out together.

Most people leave feeling noticeably calmer, lighter and more grounded. Some experience significant shifts in sleep and tension within the first session. For deeper or longstanding stress patterns, a short course of sessions is usually most effective.

Sessions can be:

  • At my clinic in Kings Heath / Stirchley, Birmingham

  • Mobile, within 10 miles of Moseley

  • Online (coaching, breathwork and guided relaxation elements)

  • Onsite at your workplace, as part of a corporate wellbeing programme

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

For acute or situational stress, many people notice meaningful improvement within 1–3 sessions. For chronic stress, burnout or anxiety that has built over months or years, a course of 4–6 sessions spaced weekly or fortnightly tends to deliver the most lasting results. We'll review together as we go — there's no pressure to commit to a set number upfront.

Common Questions

Is this the same as a massage? Not exactly. Stress reduction sessions are more holistic and focused on your nervous system and overall state of wellbeing. They may include massage elements, but they can also be entirely massage-free — using Bowen Therapy, ear acupuncture, or breathwork instead.

I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is 'stress' — can I still come? Absolutely. If you feel tense, exhausted, anxious, or just not quite yourself, that's enough of a reason. We'll work out together what's going on and what would help.

Is ear acupuncture painful? No. The needles used in ear acupuncture are extremely fine and the procedure is very gentle. Most people find it deeply relaxing. I always explain what I'm doing before I proceed and check in throughout.

Can this help if I'm also seeing a GP or therapist? Yes — stress reduction sessions work well alongside other support and are not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment where needed. I'll always encourage you to maintain any professional support you already have in place.

Do you offer this for teams or groups? Yes. Group stress reduction and relaxation sessions can be delivered as part of a corporate wellbeing programme. Get in touch for details.
