Many people assume Bowen Therapy is a type of massage — but while both involve hands-on care, they are very different in how they work and what they aim to achieve.
A Gentler Approach
Massage typically involves continuous hands-on techniques such as kneading, pressing and stretching muscles to reduce tension and improve circulation. Pressure can range from light to deep, depending on the style and the client’s needs.
Bowen Therapy, on the other hand, uses gentle, precise rolling movements over muscles and connective tissue, with pauses between sets of moves. These pauses are an important part of the process, allowing the body time to respond and reset.
